Anca Visdei
Born in Bucharest, Anca Visdei wrote her first play while still at school. After studying directing at the Bucharest Institute of Theatre and Cinematography, she followed her family, political refugees in Switzerland, where she completed a doctorate in Law. She worked as an assistant at the Chair of Public International Law at the University of Lausanne while also taking theatre classes with Véra Gregh. As a playwright and director, now based in Paris, she has written around thirty plays, published and performed in France and abroad, and has received numerous awards. She has worked as a film critic for Journal de Genève, Gazette de Lausanne, Le Figaro, Swiss Television, Les Nouvelles Littéraires, and L’Avant-Scène (theatre and cinema), and regularly gives lectures on her writings and biographies. Her publications include Jean Anouilh, une biographie [Jean Anouilh, a Biography] (Éditions Bernard de Fallois, 2012), Giacometti, ascèse et passion [Giacometti, Asceticism and Passion] (Éditions Odile Jacob, 2019), and the novels L’Exil d’Alexandra [The Exile of Alexandra] (Actes Sud, 2008) and Confessions d’une séductrice [Confessions of a Seductress] (Favre, 2008).
