WOODCUTTERS (DES ARBRES À ABATTRE) by Krystian Lupa

Running time: 3 hours 17 minutes
Screening of a play filmed for TVP television in 2025.
From €8.50 to €11

Following the funeral of an actress who took her own life, a group of Viennese artists gather for dinner. In Woodcutters, Thomas Bernhard scrutinises, with fierce irony, the compromises, failures and cowardice of the bourgeois art world. Krystian Lupa adapts this story into a wake set in no particular place or time, enriched by improvisations and dialogues with Bernhard’s work. From his ‘wingback chair’, the narrator, played by Piotr Skiba, observes and lambasts his fellow human beings in a sarcastic whisper. This screening of the video recording offers the chance to discover a major work by Lupa, first staged in 201 4 at the Polski Teatr in Wrocław.

The screening will be preceded by a discussion with Krystian Lupa, moderated by journalist Jean-Pierre Thibaudat.
The recording is subtitled in French.
