Ewa Lipska (born in 1945) is one of the greatest contemporary poets, closely associated with the Polish New Wave movement, yet always standing apart – just as her evocative poetic style, her wariness of ‘pre-existing’ language, and her metaphorical language, full of wit and rich in meaning and paradoxes, stand apart. A lyricist and columnist, she is a co-founder, editor and contributor to several Polish magazines (including the monthlys Pismo and Kraków). She worked for several years in the Polish diplomatic service in Austria. The winner of prestigious literary awards, including the Gdynia Literary Prize for her collection Pogłos, she is a member of the Polish Writers’ Association (SPP), the Polish PEN Club and the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences (PAU).
Most of her work has been translated into French by Isabelle Macor for LansKine: Lecteur d’empreintes digitales (2017), L’amour en mode urgence (2024).
