Karolina Kowalska, an interdisciplinary artist and graphic designer, was born in 1978 in Kraków. She works with photography, video, objects and site-specific installations in which light often plays a prominent role. In 2023, she was awarded a Doctor of Arts degree by the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. In 2010–2011, she was invited to take part in an artist residency programme at Location One in New York, organised in collaboration with the Adam Mickiewicz Institute. Since 2009, she has been part of the Artist Pension Trust programme in Berlin. In 2010, she was awarded the ‘Młoda Polska’ grant by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. Her works are held in the following collections: the Museum of Contemporary Art in Kraków (MOCAK), the Manggha Museum of Japanese Art and Technology, Bunkier Sztuki in Kraków, the Artist Pension Trust collection in Berlin, as well as other private collections.
