Guest of Honour
Katarzyna Kalwat, born in Kraków, holds a degree in theatre directing from the Aleksander Zelwerowicz National Academy of Dramatic Art in Warsaw and a degree in psychology from Jagiellonian University. As the recipient of a French government scholarship, she has worked with theatres in Warsaw, Poznań, Łódź, Kraków and Toruń.
In particular, she assisted Krystian Lupa on the productions of Persona. Marilyn and Persona. Ciało Simone.
Katarzyna Kalwat’s work forms part of an exploration at the intersection of theatre and philosophy. She draws direct inspiration from the work of Sarah Kofman, a French philosopher, essayist and lecturer at the Sorbonne, associated with the deconstructionist movement alongside Jacques Derrida and Gilles Deleuze. She draws directly on her work to create a play dedicated to her.
Rather than a linear adaptation, her staging of Kofman. Double Bind constructs a framework that allows the philosopher Sarah Kofman’s thinking to resonate with contemporary issues: memory, identity and the fractures of the self. Remaining faithful to the fragmentary style of the renowned essayist and philosopher, she favours a form characterised by shifts, tensions and ruptures, in which language itself becomes a field of experimentation.
