Behind the pen name ‘Maryla Szymiczkowa’ lies a writing duo: Jacek Dehnel (born in 1980) is a Polish poet, writer, translator and painter. He has received numerous major Polish literary awards (the Kościelski Prize, the Polityka Passport Award). Piotr Tarczyński (born in 1983) is a translator, historian and specialist in American studies. Descended from a long line of Krakow natives, he has been living as an émigré in Warsaw for the past ten years. The two are married in a civil ceremony and are open about it (which, in today’s Poland, is a strong sign of commitment and courage). Following the success of Madame Mohr Has Disappeared (translated into French by. Marie Furman-Bouvard, 2022), The Torn Curtain (translated into French by Cécile Bocianowski, 2023) and A Seance at the Egyptian House (translated into French by Cécile Bocianowski, 2024), the writing duo Maryla Szymiczkowa returns with The Golden Horn (translated into French by Cécile Bocianowski, Agullo), the fourth instalment in the adventures of Zofia Turbotyńska, Poland’s most iconoclastic investigator, sometimes dubbed the ‘Miss Marple of Kraków’, once again published by Agullo.
