French clarinettist Michel Lethiec is regarded as one of the leading figures on the international music scene. A regular presence on concert stages and at festivals, he performs as a soloist and in chamber music ensembles with renowned musicians and orchestras. Passionate about teaching and promoting the repertoire, he has premiered numerous contemporary works, notably by Penderecki, Corigliano, Denisov, Maratka, Dalbavie and Hersant. His discography includes, notably, Penderecki’s concertos and chamber music, Gershwin’s Porgy & Bess (arr. Frank Villard), Golijov’s Les larmes et les prières d’Isaac the blind, as well as the quintets by Bernard Hermann and David Del Tredici with the Fine Arts Quartet. His second recording of Penderecki’s concerto, conducted by the composer himself, won the Prix International du Disque in 2016. In 2018, he premiered Penderecki’s concerto for flute, clarinet and orchestra with Patrick Gallois; the work will receive its French premiere in Nice in 2023.
