Born in 1969, W.L. Tochman is one of Poland’s most widely translated journalists. A contributor to the daily newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza, he co-founded the Polish Institute of Reportage with Mariusz Szczygieł. A two-time finalist for the Nike Prize, notably for his essay on the massacres in Bosnia (Biting into Stone, translated into French by Margot Carlier, Noir sur Blanc, 2004), he received the Plume de l’Espoir prize awarded by Amnesty International for his reportage on Rwanda (Today, We Will Draw Death, translated into French by Margot Carlier, Noir sur Blanc, 2014). He is the author of Eli, Eli (translated into French by Kamil Barbarski, Noir sur Blanc, 2018). He recently published Dolphins and Beelzebub in Poland, with Wydawnictwo Literackie.
